ERC rules out the Government of Barcelona but will keep the pacts with Collboni

After more than a year of internal strip and loosen and even a failed congress, the Municipal Group of ERC in the Barcelona City Council has definitely ruled out the municipal government headed by Mayor Jaume Collboni (PSC).

This has been announced by the ERC General Secretary, Elisenda Alamany, who explained that the Republicans have agreed with the socialists monitoring structures of the pacts achieved during this mandate

According to Alamany, it is about monitoring agreements such as the creation of a Catalan office. Municipal Government sources have concluded that the agreement places ERC “as a preferential partner”, reports the Catalan agència de Notícies (ACN).

The victory of the internal rivals of Junqueras in the elections to the Federation of Barcelona closed the doors to the entrance to the municipal government that eager the supporters of the ERC leader.

“We are no longer where we were and it is a decision shared by the party in all its aspects,” said Alamany.

The general secretary has added that the ERC Federation of Barcelona is “very committed” to overcome internal divisions and cohesive for the 2027 elections.

Asked about how the Barcelona Directorate will be formed, Alamany recalled that there is an open conciliation process between the two candidates, but that there is still no meeting called.

ERC will make a “demanding” but also “constructive” opposition, as Alamany explained, which also presides over the municipal group.

Alamany has made a positive balance of the work done so far in the town hall with five councilors and stressed that they have “conditioned” the course of policies to the city.

Now ERC wants to maintain the “influence” and that the agreements with the Collboni executive materialize before the mandate ends. The pacts achieved this legislature between the PSC and ERC in Barcelona deal with urban language, tourism and transformation.

According to Alamany, the pacts will be monitored through commissions with councilors of both groups, with plans and calendar of compliance. “We are going to control what happens and what happens as ERC wants,” he has settled.

The projects that ERC wants them to materialize before the end of the mandate are the creation of a Catalan office, the increase in the tourist rate and its return to the affected neighborhoods, the urban regeneration plan in the Besòs-Maresme and the public impulse to rehabilitation.

Collboni government sources point out that “Barcelona needs broad agreements and ERC is willing to continue accompanying the government with constructive action.”

The same sources indicate that from the government they want to “continue weaving programmatic and budgetary agreements with the progressive political forces that are willing to commit to Barcelona and also promptly with Junts.”

A few days ago, Mayor Collboni already said he was in favor of continuing to rule alone. One of the open fronts in what remains of mandate and that has been stuck for some time is the reform of the 30% protected housing measure.
