The 'Renting' exceeded 115,000 alternative energy vehicles in 2024

As with an infinity of consumer items, the possession of a car in property loses little by little weight among user preferences. On the contrary, all kinds of use formulas gain ground, including the Renting While solution for renting vehicles for a previously agreed period, usually 36 or 48 months.

This last modality implies a renovation of the fleets far superior to the one experienced by the General Automobile Park. And as a consequence, the Renting It has a greater presence of models equipped with propulsion technologies considered alternatives, such as electricity.

The latest data released by the Spanish Vehicle Renting Association (AER), the main entity of the sector, shows about 116,000 units moved by alternative energies, category in which electrified vehicles include (electrified vehicles ( plug -in and entirely electric hybrids), non -rechargeable, gas and hydrogen hybrids, the latter testimonial at the moment.

According to the 2024 balance presented by the Aer, which collects all park figures, customers and registrations of the Rentingthis kind of vehicles has been 38.19% of registrations during the past year. The 116,000 alternative models represent more than 12% of the channel, and their growth in relation to the 2023 data is 28.95%.

Of these, we can be considered electrified (we repeat: plug or 100% electric hybrids) a total of 29,816 units. The breakdown, as can be seen in the following table, remains in this way: 10,970 electric, 16,879 plug -in hybrids of gasoline and 1,967 diesel plug -in hybrids. The rest of the alternative cars are, above all, conventional hybrids (HEV) and especially light hybridization models (MHEV), better known as Mild Hybrid.


Last exercise, it closed with a vehicle park of Renting which reaches 947,666 units, which represents an increase of 4.93% compared to 2023. The number of customers of this rental formula scale at 262,780, with an increase in this case of 2.66% over the previous year.

Large companies, thus considered those that exceed 24 vehicles in fleet, raise their park in Renting 5.99%, with a weight of 44.34%and an increase in the number of customers of 3.53%.

Medium -sized companies (five to 24 vehicles) register a 5.50%rise, in park, here with a weight of 17.96%, and a growth of 5.01%, in number of customers. Small companies (with up to four vehicles) increase their park by 5.08%, place their weight at 23.40%and raise their number of customers 4.65%.

Finally, natural persons, where autonomous and individuals are included, increase their vehicle park of Renting 0.88%. In its case, the weight becomes 14.29% and its clientele amounts to 0.68%.

The billing of the sector in 2024 amounted to 8,752 million euros, 9.47% more than in 2023. As for registrations, the Aer the figure in 336,140 units, 13.38% higher than that of the previous year, when 296,465 vehicles were counted. Recall that the total market registered an increase of 8.07% that resulted in a total of 1,214,872 units registered at the end of the year.


The weight of Renting In the set of enrollments it is 27.67% while, in 2023, it was 26.37%. The vehicle segment where this modality has the most representation is that of derivatives, vans and Pick-upwhere 44.93% of the market monopolizes.

The investment made in the acquisition of new vehicles by companies in the sector added 7,618 million euros, 15.34% more than at the end of 2023, an exercise in which the total amount amounted to 6,605 million euros. The average term of the contracts during the last year has been 48.76 months, compared to 48.64 of 2023.

A last curiosity of the information published by the Aer is that 28.20% of the vehicles enrolled by the Renting They have been produced in a Spanish factory, compared to 19.77% of the total market.

The president of the entity, José-Martín Castro Acebes, has valued the results of the sector: “The growth of the most relevant parameters reveals the consolidation of the Renting as a key solution for business and personal mobility in Spain. It was the sector that previously recovered the prepandemic figures and, thanks to its flexibility and adaptability to current mobility needs, it continues to gain presence both in park and in the number of customers. It is remarkable its remarkable contribution to the strengthening of the national industry, highlighting that more than 28% of its registrations have left a Spanish factory. ”
