Relatives and civil guards honor the two agents killed by a narcolanche a year ago in Barbate

Some 200 people have attended a floral offering this Sunday in the port of the Cadiz town of Barbate to honor the death of the two civil guards, mortally overwhelmed by a narcolanche on February 9, 2024. In addition, this Saturday a mass was held in the church of San Nicolás de Pamplona, ​​where David Pérez, one of the deceased civil guards, was from.

Criticism of an agent's mother

Associations of the Civil Guard and family have tried to make these high positions investigated in this case, but registered requests have been dismissed several times, a circumstance that continues to raise blisters. In this sense, they consider that although “the executing hand is in jail, there are more people involved”, as Miguel Ángel's mother remembered this Friday in a concentration held in Cádiz to continue claiming justice for their deaths.

In this regard, Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska has always denied that there was a lack of means when participating in this action, also discarding the numerous resignation requests he has received in this last year. The Delegate of the Government of Spain in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, defended this Friday that “right now” is being carried out “the best international operation for the fight against drug trafficking in Spain” and is “in a permanent and continuous effort to impose the principle of authority ”.

Barbate's pain

The events of a year ago occurred when a Civil Guard Zodiac went to an operation to try to deter the presence of several high -speed and large vessels, the so -called rubbers, which were taking refuge from the storm in the port of Barbate . One of them lashed out several times against that of the agents, which was inferior in power and size, and that led to them to be helpless in the face of the violence with which the drug pilot attacked. The last onslaught was the mortal, passing over the Zodiac and causing the death of Miguel Ángel González and David Pérez. In addition, three other civil guard were seriously injured.

After these tragic events, eight people were arrested, of which two of them were released after giving a statement. The other six entered provisional prison, according to the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of Barbate, as alleged responsible for handling the boat that rammed the agents, although they always denied their participation in this specific fact.

The case takes a turn

The case took a turn months later, in May 2024, the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard in charge of the investigation wrote a report in which it ruled out the involvement of those six detainees, one of them Kiko The goatthen accused of piloting the narcolanche. Given these new facts, the judge determined the release of the imprisoned, who were still investigated for smuggling crimes, belonging to criminal organization, resistance and disobedience, but not to kill the two agents.

Already in September 2024, the Civil Guard achieved the arrest of Karim EB, the alleged pilot of the narcolanche that caused the death of the civil guards, and shortly after two other people were arrested for their involvement in these facts. The three continue in prison waiting for trial, still a third crew to locate.

Karim EB has forgiven the families of the victims and defends that everything was “an accident”, statements that were rejected by the mother of Miguel Ángel González, who already warned that “neither forgotten nor forgive” to those who had taken away To your child.

In all this time, the Government of Spain stressed that the actions carried out in the province of Cádiz against drug trafficking through the Special Security Plan of the Gibraltar Campo, launched in 2018 by the Government of Pedro Sánchez, and in the That, as they have alleged numerous occasions, has allowed them to advise these networks.
